Our Current Service

What do we get? – As stated by Chorus

“The best available broadband on our network is ADSL
ADSL provides basic broadband that supports everyday activities like web browsing, online banking, and emailing.
Potential speed 2 Mbps” – https://www.chorus.co.nz/broadband-checker

    Broadband:

  • the top half of the street get > 1Mbps
  • the lower half of the street get < 1Mbps ie 0.8 and below

The following was a speedtest done from an island in Thailand

What we actually get on Plateau Road – 25 June 2017

The Frustration

  • Students unable to complete “online” assignments
  • I am aware of a recent house sale not going through as the buyer was unable to “work from home”
  • Work uploads timing out, stating to take several hours – the same upload takes less than 1 minute at a coffee shop in the city
  • Uploads of photographs to printers failing as the connection “to slow”
  • Software updates taking days to download
  • Security updates/patches failing for operating systems updating
  • Downloads hogging all resources, so nobody else can use/share services, including the telephone
